Case Studies

Over the years Absolute Tooling have worked with our clients to develop many exciting and innovative products. We pride ourselves in our ability to bring your ideas through to implementation.

Here are just a few examples:

Plant Pot Tooling

Designed and built tooling for a coloured pot plant and base which have sold tens of thousands in plant shops all over New Zealand.

Ear Tag Tooling

We designed and built a 16 cavity ear tag tool for an Australian Company in the ear tag business

Aseptic Bottling Machine

In late 2008 Absolute Tooling was approached by a local entrepreneur with an early prototype aseptic bottling machine. He was keen to build a commercial quality machine for export to Brazil and "button down" a scalable modular CAD design.

On consulting with the client it was clear we had quite a challenge ahead of us. The prototype had been a "one off" construction with no CAD data whatsoever and so replicating the machine was out of the question.

Starting from a clean sheet of paper Absolute Tooling adopted a customer driven design and build process including peer review from all levels of the company. Our client became one of the family and commented many times how he enjoyed proposing something on the whiteboard and then being able to watch the idea develop into functional machinery.

That is the essence of it really....a customer driven approach that results in an exciting and innovative machine we can all be proud of!

The "Av Bomb" Story

We have worked with local entrepreneurs to develop moulding for an avalanche bomb that is superior to anything available on the international markets.

Avalanche bombs are critical in skifield management. They are fired into avalanche-prone areas to bring down an avalanche and therefore make the skifield area, or other area, safe for people. These products are now being exported from New Zealand to many locations around the world.

Museli Bar Roller

We designed and built a one-off specialist museli bar roller for an international dairy company which enabled them to ensure that their museli product met the needs of their customers.

Cap Sorting Elevator

We designed, built and commissioned a cap sorting elevator for an international client. It solved the problem of how to orientate bottle caps the right way around before entry into a bottle capping mechanism. Easier to say than do!

Cookie Spoon Machine

We designed, built and tested a machine that manufactures full 3D spoon-shaped biscotti biscuits for a niche NZ based client. We also designed and implemented a conveyoring process to dip the head of the "biscuit spoons" in chocolate for one very happy client! The boys enjoyed doing the testing for this job!!

The Safe Eyes Story

Phil Hall, a forestry contractor in Masterton, was getting feedback from his forestry work crew that their safety goggles were fogging up in the heat of the day. This problem made conventional protective eye-wear very difficult to use.

Phil took the initiative to buy a set of full screen swimming goggles, then took out the lenses and replaced them with fine metal gauze, allowing the lenses themselves to breathe.

This met with the approval of his crew, so Phil hand-made a number more for the rest of them which met with universal favour.

The crew said to Phil that he should manufacture the goggles commercially, and so Phil got in touch with ATS in Palmerston North, who specialise in tool and die making for manufacturers. The finished product worked very well and is now being manufactured by Pike's Plastics in Masterton and exported around the world as "Safe Eyes".
